Hideaway Studios: Austin TX, April 2012 — There’s a mad scientist in a music lab somewhere in Austin, Texas. Stitching together a little bit of R&B/Soul with some kind of funky ska vibe, and they are calling it “One Armed Bandits”
Today, Larisa & The Raindoggs officially released the first ever “self updating album” via iTunes. The concept is simple, fans subscribe to the “One Armed Bandits” podcast [link] which automatically updates whenever The Raindoggs upload a new track or remix. This gives true music fans an opportunity to follow the bands production process. Like a musical soap opera the songs will morph into their own creatures, some will stay some will go, and you’ll be the first to know. The RainDoggs will be releasing a new single the first Tuesday of every month.
Picture Tom Waits and Snoop Dogg in a 68 Camaro driving from New Orleans to LA, and it’s all being filmed by David Lynch. This is the voo doo smoke that seeps from The RainDoggs’ jaws and paws, click here to follow along.
exit61: The Real Nasty
What if you crossed Beck with Johnny Cash? Throughout rock history, one thing has always been crystal clear: the best bands don’t stay still very long. Stagnation is death and repetition nothing but a bore. Taking risks, dodging complacency, never looking back—that’s where timeless music comes from. The Real Nasty, the celebrated Oakland, California-based trio formed in January 2009, has already done more evolving in that short span than most bands do in a lifetime. Now, with the release of Dirty Dollars, their third CD for the Ninth Street Opus label in as many years, they’ve taken a quantum leap.

Sweet Evolution is a 3 vocal band out of San Antonio TX. I think they capture that old school all girl vocal R&B sound.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have come a long way since their humble beginnings nearly a decade ago. On April 6th, 2010, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings marked history with the release of their fourth album, I Learned The Hard Way. After selling a mere 100,000 copies of their previous album, 100 Days, 100 Nights, since its release in 2007, the band went on to move 23,000 copies of I Learned The Hard Way in the first week putting the album at #15 on the Billboard 200.
